Cocoa farmers across the Ashanti Region are celebrating after COCOBOD announced a record producer price of GH₵3,200 per bag for the 2025/2026 main crop season.
The price represents a 25% increase from the previous season and comes as global cocoa prices hit a 10-year high on international commodity markets.
In Juaben, Ejisu, and Bekwai — major cocoa-producing districts — farmers expressed relief and joy. "This is the best news we have had in years. Now I can pay my children's school fees and fix my roof," said farmer Yaw Boateng from Juaben.
COCOBOD CEO Joseph Boahen Aidoo said the price increase reflects the government's commitment to improving farmer livelihoods. The board has also announced a new fertilizer subsidy program that will provide inputs at 50% below market price.
Agricultural economists note that sustained high prices could incentivize more young people to enter cocoa farming, addressing the aging farmer demographic that threatens long-term production.
