The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has unveiled an ambitious GH₵500 million smart city masterplan aimed at transforming the Garden City into a modern urban hub by 2030.

The plan, presented by Mayor Osei Bonsu at a stakeholder forum, includes smart traffic management systems, digital public services, fiber optic internet infrastructure across all 10 sub-metros, and a new central business district near Adum.

"Kumasi is ready to take its place among Africa's great cities," Mayor Bonsu declared to applause from business leaders and traditional rulers in attendance.

The project will be funded through a combination of government allocation, World Bank grants, and private sector partnerships. Chinese construction firm CSCEC has already expressed interest in the infrastructure components.

Critics from the opposition have questioned the timeline and funding transparency, calling for an independent audit committee to oversee expenditures.
