The Government of Ghana has launched its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, with Kumasi's growing tech ecosystem designated as a key implementation hub alongside Accra.
The strategy, unveiled by the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, outlines a roadmap for integrating AI into healthcare, agriculture, education, and public services over the next five years.
Kumasi's selection as a hub city reflects the rapid growth of its tech startup scene. The Kumasi Hive, a co-working and incubation space, has produced over 40 startups in the past three years.
"We are building the Silicon Savannah right here in Kumasi," said tech entrepreneur Nana Yaa Frimpong, founder of AgriTech startup FarmSense. Her company uses AI to help smallholder farmers predict weather patterns and optimize yields.
The strategy includes a GH₵200 million fund for AI research and development, with KNUST (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) set to host a new Centre for AI Excellence.
